5S Asturias

5S Asturias

“The Quality Club”.

Founded in 1995, it is made up of 270 partners, including most of the main companies and institutions based in Asturias: Arcelormittal, Asturiana de Zinc, DuPont, Thyssenkrupp, Saint Gobain, Alcoa-Alu Ibérica...

The Quality Club works above all in 4 areas:

  • Efficiency and productivity
  • People Management
  • Sustainability/CSR
  • Management systems.

Last year, 2020, GME participated in the presentation ceremony for new partners (telematically) and they gave us our new partner plaque.

Since then, in the Asturias Warehouse we are participating in 5S Program, aimed at being more efficient, optimizing resources and improving safety conditions, in a cycle of continuous improvement.

The 5S Project is a methodology named after the first letter of the name that in Japanese designates each of its five stages:

  • Classification
  • Order
  • Cleaning
  • Standardization
  • Discipline

And that in GME is already applied in the workshop of our delegation in Avilés..

This initiative is a project of the Avilés City Council in collaboration with which it finances a project for the Avilés industry “Avilés 5S Project (4th edition)”.

From the City Council of Avilés in collaboration with the Asturian Quality Club, they proposed to participate in the Avilés 5S Project (4th edition) to continue improving and implementing the 5S method and thus be able to be more efficient, optimize resources and improve safety conditions, in a cycle of continuous improvement.

In the month of November 2021, GME and 5 other companies received the accrediting diplomas after passing specific training in the "five S's" methodology.

"A Drastic Change"
The 5S proposal also works for other spaces, as our colleague Ángela Fernández (GME Asturias) explained.

Ángela explained the experience of García Munté Energía, which is participating in the initiative for the second time. In this case in the field of management:

«We took advantage of the return to the office after confinement and the improvement has been substantial. We have gone from being ten minutes to locate a delivery note to having it in two; in addition to the peace of mind that locating it quickly brings.”
